After the raw velocities are quality-controlled and optionally despiked, velocities must be further processed before analysing the turbulence spectra. The main steps to prepare the quality-controlled velocities for turbulence analysis are the following:

  1. Segmenting datasets
  2. Rotate the measurements
  3. Decompose the velocities into the mean, turbulence and surface waves component
  4. Determine how (or if at all) missing samples should be replaced.

When measuring velocities continuously or in long bursts, some individuals may also detrend the time series before beginning any of these processing steps.
