After the raw velocities are quality-controlled and optionally despiked, velocities must be further processed before analysing the turbulence spectra. The main steps to prepare the quality-controlled velocities for turbulence analysis are the following:
- Replace missing samples discarded during quality-control
- Segmenting datasets in preparation to estimate velocity spectra
- Rotate the measurements into the flow's frame of reference
- Decompose the velocities into the mean, turbulence, and surface waves component
When measuring velocities continuously or in long bursts, some individuals may also detrend the time series before beginning any of these processing steps.
